What are your little luxuries? Mine are:
A whole sheaf of Rodia paper for calligraphy practice
A splash of perfume usually reserved for a formal occasion
KikiK gold and silver pens
Pure essential oils
If you’re like me, you probably squirrel those precious things away, hiding them in some secret place at the bottom of the sock drawer. There they shall stay for an indefinite amount of time, for they will only see the light of day on some far-off, as-yet unnamed occasion. They aren’t used everyday because not everyday is special.
The other day I got tired of all the secrecy and maintenance and hewing and hawing and I said to myself, enough of this nonsense.
On my next MRT train ride, I then proceeded to smear pure essential rose oil on my skin, to hell with the dust and grime that comes with Metro Manila commuting. The next day my personal journal was in for a rare treat: gold KikiK ink! Nobody else was going to read it, but aren’t I special enough to deserve it? As for that expensive (for me) Rhodia paper? It said hello to my shaky, unpracticed calligraphy hands, chicken scribbles and ink stains notwithstanding.
As for you, how about you bust out your unopened bottle of Chanel No.5/Annick Goutal/Jean Patou and dab some of that sweet smelling potion on your pulse points? No permission slips needed. Today can be a special occasion just because you said so.
