Three thoughts on mindfulness:
1. Mindfulness is about self care. Keeping still and paying attention long enough to heed your own voice amidst the din and clatter of everyday living is the simplest way to show that you value yourself.
2. Mindfulness is about self acceptance. This includes your flaws, imperfections, strengths and an awareness of your molding moments.
It’s about total acceptance without judgement or false pretenses. It’s about fighting the urge to unfairly compare your awkward beginnings with someone else’s middle journeys.
3. Mindfulness is as much about facing your imperfections as it is about making the most of your innate strengths & talents. It’s about cultivating your gifts without letting it get to your head too much.
It’s about discovering what lights you up, and owning up to it, wholeheartedly. It’s about giving yourself permission to chase after the things that make your pulse race without second guessing it against what is ‘practical’ or ‘acceptable’ to the point where it dissolves into thin air.
“If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change. As a man changes his own nature, so does the attitude of the world change towards him. … We need not wait to see what others do.” – Gandhi
